The work you’ll do

Successful in applying to us? Brilliant. We’ll start with a pre-vacation scheme day, where you’ll get feedback on your application from our trainee recruitment, advice from trainees, and a seat fair to explore where you might like to be placed.

Next, you’ll start your work at the firm – and believe us, there’s a lot to do. Group projects. Research for clients. Helping out on deals. Wherever you look, you’ll be throwing yourself into new things, all with the support of your supervisor and your colleagues.

The social side

The work you’ll do is important, but that’s not all there is to life at our firm. You’ll find all kinds of new experiences within a packed calendar of social events. There’ll be networking events, after-work socials, working lunches, and even the chance to test your skills on everything from cookery classes to escape room challenges. Whether you’re with us for two weeks or just one, our schedule means you’ll really get to know both your cohort and our colleagues, even in a short space of time.

On my vacation scheme, I got to sit in on a call with an insurance partner, Ffion Flockhart. I’d already known about her because she made partner so young and so quickly. It was great to listen to a woman who’d experienced that much success in her legal career, especially at that early stage.

We did bowling and went to karaoke – not that we had anyone with any natural talent for singing. Everyone got up and had a go though. Vaguely. We certainly attempted it anyway.

I remember going to a cookery school. It was a Wednesday night social – about halfway through, when you’re starting to get to know people a bit, and feel more comfortable.

For me the vacation scheme was a really different experience from university. That switch from academic to practical, and to business, is quite striking.

We had a quiz one night in the firm. It was great – the trainees and some of the supervisors came down for it too. It got pretty intense, I have to say, when you put that many lawyers in one competition.

On the first day of the vacation scheme, I immediately noticed the ethnically diverse make-up of my intake. As a member of organisations like SEO London and Aspiring Solicitors, it really affirmed my belief that this was the right firm for me: you could see the firm’s genuine openness to diversity in the workplace.
